PNW Trip - Day 5, Part 2

No, I didn't forget that I promised a second part of Day 5, I just decided to enjoy the weekend....

Also while in Fremont on Sunday, we found the Fremont Sunday Market. This market blocks off about 6 city blocks and has vendors lining both sides of the road.

Selling everything from cherries, to glasswork, to jewelry, to antiques, to fish and more!

This was one particular sign I enjoyed along the way...

But best of all was the crepe stand. Now I have to confess that at my age, I don't recall every having a fresh made crepe. And here was this young gal making them to order.....

They had a variety of toppings that you could choose, including sweet options, and savory options. Items from bananas, chocolate, cheese, basil, and much more....

We opted to try out a Cinnamon/Sugar crepe as a snack, and it was DELICIOUS!

As you can see, it was just about as fresh as you can get....

An enjoyable treat to watch and to eat.

Oh how I wish our town or even anywhere in the metro area had a market like this. I could easily spend the better part of most Sundays at a great market....

I'm going to Omaha!

I know most people might wonder why I'm so excited....

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE going someplace I've never been before. I really believe there is something interesting about every location.

I asked on Facebook if anyone had suggestions about things to do or see, and so far, the only one who has responded said it was boring.

And yet, I'm excited....

Here's what I already know I want to see while I'm there, and of course, I'm open for all suggestions.

*The Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge - A 3000ft pedestrian bridge across the Missouri River between Omaha, Ne and Council Bluffs, Ia. How cool is that???

*Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo - The zoo has penguins. 'Nuff said!

*The International Quilt Study Center and Museum - Ok, so this is in Lincoln, NE, but close enough for a day trip!

*Geocaches in 4 (yes, FOUR) new states! I'm almost beside myself by this. We'll pick up caches in Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri. And probably all in one day!!

*There are casinos in COuncil Bluff, Ia, which is literally just across the river, or about a 20 minute drive. Hmmm.... that could spell trouble......

Lofty goals, as We'll actually only have two FULL days, and then part of two other days. But I can't wait to see what I can see.

Do you have any suggestions on things that are a "CAN'T MISS" while in Omaha? What about some excellent dining recommendations or cool markets?

Quilt Show

This weekend is the Mid-Atlantic Quilt Show in Hampton. It's a VERY large show that brings people from all over the country for the classes, the vendors, and the quilts.

I signed up for a class on Saturday afternoon, so that let me into the preview night, last night.

SENSORY OVERLOAD!

I certainly wish I was independently wealthy, with nothing but time on my hands. There are so many fabrics that I want. So many neat gadgets. So many cool machines. WHEW!

I picked up a couple of things last night (can't show pictures, because I never know who's reading this, and if it may spoil a surprise at some point). I drooled over many more things, and marveled at the talent.

It just makes me wish that I could quilt all day....

I'll be going back tomorrow, and spending much more time, and narrowing down what I can actually afford to purchase, and on Saturday, I'll take the stained glass class I signed up for.

A few years ago, I bought a stained glass pattern because it looked easy... Similar to the one below. But then couldn't figure out the particulars.... This class promises to make it simple.

So, we'll see... Either way, stay tuned for some finished projects soon!

Sushi

Friday night, we met a friend of ours for dinner who loves sushi and has been wanting us to go with her to try it out.  We were quite skeptical, but figured it'd be good for us.  I'd had california rolls before, and wasn't overly impressed.

We tried an assortment of different things, and all in all, it wasn't bad.  I did fairly well with the chopsticks, mainly because I'm not going to let a little thing like the lack of a fork keep me from eating dinner!  The miso soup was a tad difficult with the chopsticks, but that another day....

We tried raw red tuna, snapper, salmon, and yellow tuna.  The flavor isn't bad, it's getting past the texture of eating raw fish.  we also had rolls that had shrimp with cream cheese, and a deep fried roll with spicy ahi tuna.  Of course, you can't go wrong if you deep fry anything!

I don't remember at all what anything was called, or what I would try again, but I'd definitely go back, and try some different things as well.

Oh, and the japanese beer was pretty good too!
